Chelsea supporters have taken to Twitter to lavish praise on Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for his performance at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.
The Everton stopper was in brilliant form as the Toffees battled to secure a 1-1 draw away to Thomas Tuchel’s outfit in West London yesterday evening.
Pickford, England’s number one goalkeeper, was particularly inpenetrable during a first half in which Chelsea dominated proceedings but failed to find a way beyond the former Sunderland stalwart.
Here is how some supporters of the London powerhouses reacted to Pickford’s performance on Twitter:
Massive result
This was truly a massive result for Everton manager Rafael Benitez, on his return to Chelsea.
A victory would’ve been far better – obviously – but this still keeps some pressure off the under-fire Spanish trainer.
The worrying thing for the Merseysiders is that as brilliant as Pickford was, a number of his teammates were concerningly average on the night.
Remember, Everton are 14th in the Premier League standings and Pickford, their goalkeeper, isn’t going to propel them up the table.
That right there is a mission for the Toffees’ attacking quantities, the majority of whom simply didn’t turn up versus Chelsea.
Anthony Gordon was immense, it has to be said, but the likes of Alex Iwobi and Andre Gomes, two creative outlets, failed to have much of an impact.
Benitez will be thinking that if Everton rescued a point at the stadium of a Premier League title favourite, then victory might’ve been on the menu had either of that duo shown up.
