Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has been discussing Alessandro Bastoni after his summer links to Tottenham Hotspur.

We’re sure many Spurs fans remember, Bastoni was touted as one of Spurs’ top targets in the summer window as the north London club relentlessly tried to prise the Italian out of Milan.

Unfortunately for Antonio Conte, Bastoni was dead set on staying in Italy this summer, and a deal couldn’t be agreed.

However, Bastoni hasn’t been a key player for Inter this season, and that’s led to Gold speculating as to whether or not a move could be on the cards.

Sadly, the journalist says that a January move probably isn’t likely, but he did ponder whether or not this could be revisited in the summer.

Bastoni to Spurs?

Gold spoke about the Italian defender.

“With Bastoni, the player just didn’t want to leave Milan, he was very happy at Inter and didn’t have any real intention of going despite Spurs’ best efforts. Spurs were willing to play the money, but the player didn’t want to leave,” Gold said.

“I have been keeping an eye on him and he’s only started six Serie A games this season, he’s been an unused sub in three of the last four games as well. It’s there to see that he hasn’t been starting every match, for a 23-year-old, there is talk of him getting a new contract, but at the moment it will expire in 18 months’ time.

“I do think January will be too difficult to prise him away, it’s not like a game of FIFA or Football Manager, in January it’s difficult to sign those kind of players, those are summer deals, and I do wonder with Lenglet’s loan having no option to buy if Bastoni is in mind for next summer.”

Next summer

Keep an eye on this one for next summer.

With Bastoni entering the final 12 months of his contract, a cut-price deal is there to be done, and if Conte is still at Spurs at the end of the season, this would be an appealing transfer.

Let’s not forget, Conte adored Bastoni during his time at San Siro, and with Bastoni not getting too much gametime right now, he could be looking for new pastures at the end of the season.

This is a transfer that makes so much sense, and it really could be on the cards for the summer window.
