Liverpool stalwart Fabinho has been talking about his Brazil World Cup teammate Casemiro‘s decision to join Manchester United.

The £43.7m Liverpool man joked that his fellow South American picked the “wrong place” to play his football, given the bitter rivalry between the Reds and Manchester United.

Liverpool star hopes Manchester United struggle

Well, Fabinho seems all too aware of just how talented Casemiro is, as he admitted that he hopes the £70m signing from Real Madrid doesn’t improve the Reds Devils.

Speaking to UOL, the Liverpool No.3 said: “Too bad he went to the wrong place in England, huh? I hope he doesn’t improve Manchester United that much. He, Fred, Antony, there are a lot of Brazilians going to the wrong place in the country.”

Clearly, Fabinho doesn’t want to see Manchester United rise back to the top of English football, where they used to be until Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

The 29-year-old will have to put club rivalries aside for the next month, as he and Casemiro attempt to win a sixth World Cup for Brazil in Qatar.

Liverpool need Fabinho to shine

In our view, Jürgen Klopp will be desperate for Fabinho to shine at the World Cup more than his other Liverpool players taking part in Qatar.

The South American has not been at his formidable best so far this season, and his displays have been emblematic of Liverpool’s struggles in the Premier League.

Fabinho has still performed to a respectable standard, but he has been a key cog for the Reds over the past few years, with his defensive work allowing Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold to push forward, without worrying about leaving gaps in defence.

Hopefully, the Brazilian will return from Qatar as the player he was last season – if he does, it would provide Klopp with a major boost going into the second half of the campaign.
