Tony Xia has suggested that Aston Villa aren’t pursuing Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost.
Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost
Aston Villa owner Tony Xia has taken to Twitter in order to shoot down suggestions of a move for Wolfsburg hitman Bas Dost.
Villa have spent heavily so far this summer, recruiting Pierluigi Gollini, Ritchie De Laet, Tommy Elphick, James Chester, Aaron Tshibola, Mile Jedinak and Ross McCormack as they pursue an immediate return to the Premier League.

Yet, even after all those additions, Villa are still in the market for new signings ahead of next Wednesday’s transfer deadline, with a Bundesliga striker linked with the club on Monday.
Spox reported that Villa were keen to sign Wolfsburg hitman Bas Dost, and were even willing to spend €10.5m (£9m) on signing the Dutchman.

Dost, 27, hit ten goals for Wolfsburg last season, and despite Max Kruse’s move to Werder Bremen, he’s still little more than a backup after the arrival of German international striker Mario Gomez.
A giant standing at 6ft 5in tall, Dost is known for his aerial prowess, and could be a smart signing for a Championship club given that he scored 20 goals for Wolfsburg during the 2014/15 season.

Newcastle United are also believed to be keen on signing Dost, but any interest from Villa has been shot down by the club’s chairman Tony Xia.
Xia has taken to Twitter to respond to rumours surrounding interest in Dost, and claimed that Villa need pace rather than height in attack, given that they already have a proven target man in Rudy Gestede – and suggested Vila are looking for a regular international as their top striker target, rather than the six-cap Dost.
