Aston Villa re-signed the Manchester United man on a season-long loan today.
Sam Johnstone has re-joined Aston Villa on loan.
The Manchester United goalkeeper spent the second half of last season at Aston Villa and proved himself an excellent addition by manager Steve Bruce.
And the Villans’ owner Dr Tony Xia has welcomed him with open arms after signing on for a full season at Villa Park.
Johnstone, 24, is Bruce’s second summer signing following the arrival of 36-year-old defender John Terry on a one-year deal.
But Aston Villa will need plenty more additions if they are to challenge for promotion.
Bruce’s charges finished 13th in the Championship last season but this will be the veteran manager’s first full season in charge, after replacing Roberto Di Matteo in October.
He certainly knows what it takes to win promotion to the Premier League, having done so on four separate occasions with Birmingham City and Hull City, and Aston Villa fans will be hoping that Bruce can get number five under his belt come next May.
Bringing in Johnstone is certainly a step in the right direction.
