Aston Villa looked on course for a second successive Championship win on Tuesday.
Fresh from a 3-0 thumping of Rotherham United, Roberto Di Matteo’s side hosted Huddersfield at Villa Park hoping to pick up another win, having lost their first two matches under the Italian – one in a League Cup defeat by Luton Town.
And it was shaping up to a great night in the West Midlands when Ross McCormack’s goal – his first since joining Aston Villa for £12 million this summer – looked like being enough to give the hosts all three points.

But a freak equaliser in which goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini’s clearance rebounded off Michael Hefele and trickled into an empty net on 86 minutes put something of a downer on the night from an Aston Villa perspective.
Summer signing Aaron Tshibola expressed his disappointment on Twitter, but the club’s Chinese owner shared some nice word of encouragement with the 21-year-old midfielder
