Aston Villa ended their miserable run of form by beating Derby County 1-0 at Villa Park, prompting a reaction on Twitter from owner Tony Xia.

Villa had endured a terrible start to 2017 having lost seven of their eight Championship games, with their one point coming in a 2-2 home draw with Preston North End.

Manager Steve Bruce had been coming in for huge criticism from supporters ahead of this afternoon’s clash with Derby County, with the Villa boss in desperate need of a result.

Fortunately, he got what he wanted as Villa claimed all three points against the Rams, with defender James Chester bagging the only goal of the game in the first half.

Villa rode their luck at times, with Derby having more than 70% of possession and 13 shots on goal, and Leandro Bacuna was sent off late on, but Villa claimed a vital 1-0 victory to move eight points clear of the relegation zone.

The win will ease pressure on manager Bruce, and club owner Tony Xia took to Twitter after the full time whistle to share his thoughts.

Xia has stuck by Bruce amid pressure from fans, and took to Twitter to state that he can’t express his feelings after picking up such a vital win.

Xia added his thanks to the Villa fans for sticking together through a difficult spell, as supporters celebrate a win for the first time since the turn of the year.
