Aston Villa owner Tony Xia has taken to Twitter to reassure fans that he doesn’t regret getting involved in the club, almost a year since his takeover was completed.

With Villa relegated from the Premier League with a disinterested owner in Randy Lerner, the club needed a new leader with a new direction – and they got one in Tony Xia.

The Chinese billionaire, who serves as the CEO, chairman and owner of Recon Group, purchased Villa last summer, and he has set about bringing the club back to their former glories.

Xia’s time at Villa Park hasn’t totally been smooth sailing. His first managerial appointment, Roberto Di Matteo, won just one of his 12 games in charge before being sacked in October, a number of summer signings have flopped.

Pierluigi Gollini has been loaned out to Atalanta having joined from Hellas Verona, whilst both Aaron Tshibola and Ross McCormack have been farmed out on loan to Nottingham Forest after making little impact at Villa Park, whilst Ritchie De Laet suffered a season-ending injury in September.

Steve Bruce came in as Di Matteo’s replacement, and he was backed with eight new signings in January as Xia continues to put his money into the club after a disappointing season, in which Villa are attempting to scrape a top half finish.

Xia’s spending on transfers has now been taken up to nearly £72million (Transfermarkt), and he has reassured fans that he doesn’t regret getting involved with the club despite so many troubles this season.

Xia has taken to Twitter to admit that this the most high pressure situation he has been in during his time in business, but doesn’t regret buying the club.
