Aston Villa owner Tony Xia has commented on the club’s plans for the January transfer window.
Aston Villa owner Tony Xia has taken to Twitter to claim that plans have been made for the January transfer window, though he did acknowledge that it’s a tough time to get new signings in.
Villa have had an action-packed season so far, to say the least. Xia appointed Roberto Di Matteo as the club’s new manager over the summer, spent heavily on players like James Chester, Mile Jedinak, Ross McCormack and Jonathan Kodjia over the summer.

Early results were poor, and after just one win in 11 league games, Di Matteo was sacked with Villa hovering precariously above the relegation zone – and Xia couldn’t afford to suffer a second straight relegation.
In came Steve Bruce, and results have certainly picked up. With four wins and three draws in his first seven games, Bruce got off to a superb start with an unbeaten run, but that came to an end with a 2-0 defeat at Leeds United last weekend.

Whilst Villa are on the road to recovery under Bruce, and sit just six points off the play-offs, it’s clear that he needs reinforcements during the January transfer window, with a host of players already linked.
The Daily Record suggested this week that Bruce wants a reunion with Hull goalkeeper Allan McGregor after some shaky displays from summer signing Pierluigi Gollini, whilst the Daily Mail claim that Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes is also a target for Villa.

Bruce will be hoping for significant backing in January, and fans have been taking to Twitter to ask owner Xia just what Villa’s plans for strengthening are.
Xia responded by saying that Villa have been working on their January plans, and hope to bring in players to strengthen their squad – but did acknowledge that January is a tough time to bring players in, with teams often unwilling to let players go in the middle of the season.
