According to a recent report, Aston Villa are interested in signing Stoke City striker Peter Crouch.

Tony Xia has taken to Twitter to comment on reports coming out of The Sun that suggested that Aston Villa want to sign Stoke City striker Peter Crouch – while the supporters have also been reacting to the rumours.

According to The Sun, Villa hope to follow up their acquisition of Chelsea hero John Terry with a move for Potters forward Crouch 13 years after he left Villa Park.

However, The Sun added that the deal would not come cheap and would require Stoke being willing to accept a low fee for the 36-year-old, as Villa would require as much financial muscle as possible to offer Crouch the kind of contract that would tempt the former England forward to drop down into the Championship.

But it appears that the chances of Villa actually targeting Crouch are currently bleak, with club owner Xia seemingly shutting the speculation down by insisting that a move is not a pipeline.

Of course, the unpredictability of the transfer window means that it would perhaps be foolish to suggest that Villa’s stance could not change in the coming weeks.

And that has prompted some of the fans to discuss what would appear to have to now be a hypothetical pursuit of the veteran. And while some supporters are completely underwhelmed at the prospect of Crouch signing, it appears that a large section of the Villa faithful would like to see the forward return this summer.
