Aston Villa moved themselves into the Championship’s top two with a hugely impressive win on derby day.

Aston Villa owner Tony Xia took to Twitter after the Villans secured the Second City bragging rights by comfortably beating Birmingham City 2-0 at Villa Park to move themselves into the automatic-promotion spots in the Championship.
Villa would have gone into the game as overwhelming favourites to beat their bitter rivals. Steve Bruce’s men had won their last six league games while the Blues continue to languish near the bottom of the table despite only losing once since the turn of the year.

The derby however, can act as a real leveller. But that did not prove to be the case as Villa secured the three points with relative ease against the Blues, with goals from Albert Adomah and Conor Hourihane proving to be the difference.
There were several standout performances during the game, with Villa’s entire midfield shining and proving pivotal to the side’s victory over their rivals.

Hourihane and Adomah may have bagged the goals, but Robert Snodgrass and Jack Grealish were fantastic, while Mile Jedinak gave the back four plenty of support that helped largely restrict Birmingham to a couple of good chances throughout the contest.
And Xia seemed to agree Hourihane, Grealish and Snodgrass were all vital to the win as he tagged the trio, as well as striker Scott Hogan, in his post-match tweet celebrating the win.
Here is what Xia made of Villa’s result…
