Aston Villa loanee Sam Johnstone has been linked with a January exit.
Aston Villa chairman Tony Xia has taken to Twitter to ease fears over Sam Johnstone’s future with the club amid links with a January move.
Villa swooped to sign Johnstone on loan from Manchester United in January 2017, with Steve Bruce taking the goalkeeper for the second half of the campaign.
After a shaky start, Johnstone finished the season strongly and did enough to tempt Villa into renewing his loan deal, taking him for the 2017-18 campaign too.
This season, Johnstone has made 26 appearances, and his performances for Villa have sparked rumours over his future with the January transfer window open.
The Mirror report that Johnstone can be recalled and sent back to Manchester United this month, allowing him to move on and seal a permanent deal elsewhere.
With Crystal Palace, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United all believed to be keen, leaving Villa fans concerned that he will be leaving Villa Park this month.
One supporter even took to Twitter to ask owner Tony Xia for an update on Johnstone’s future, and the Villa chief has attempted to quell fears.
Xia suggested that Johnstone will be with Villa for the rest of the season, and Villa hope to sign him permanently providing they win promotion, adding that he thinks Johnstone feels at home at Villa.
