The Aston Villa chairman chose to stand by the club’s manager in difficult circumstances.

Dr Tony Xia, Chairman of Aston Villa walks the pitch during the Sky Bet Championship match between Aston Villa and Birmingham City at Villa Park on April 23, 2017 in Birmingham, England.

Having won their last three Championship games in a row, Aston Villa are currently in fourth place in the table and seemingly have a very good chance of earning promotion back to the Premier League.

Matters have changed significantly since the start of the season, when, after taking just one point out a possible nine, Villa looked set for a miserable campaign and speculation was rife about the future of manager Steve Bruce.

However, Bruce remained in charge, with chairman Tony Xia retaining faith in the experienced coach, and that decision has certainly had the desired effect, with Villa now playing with confidence and achieving impressive results.

There is still a long way to go for Villa to get back to the Premier League but Xia deserves much praise for not being rash in his approach in a situation where many chairmen might have felt that sacking the manager was the best possible option.

With the January transfer window rapidly approaching, Bruce will hope that he is provided with sufficient funds to further improve his squad and to help Villa maintain their impressive form.

If Xia is willing to give Bruce more money to spend then Premier League football could soon return to Villa Park.
