Glenn Whelan has joined Aston Villa from Stoke City in the summer transfer window.
Aston Villa chairman Tony Xia has described new signing Glenn Whelan as a “fighter” on social networking site Twitter.
Championship club Villa have signed midfielder Whelan from Premier League rivals Stoke on a two-year contract.
According to BBC Sport, the Villans had to pay the Potters a transfer fee of £1 million in order to secure the services of the 33-year-old Republic of Ireland international.
Villa chairman Xia has welcomed the former Sheffield Wednesday man to Villa Park and has described him as a “fighter”.

Villa have been quite busy so far in the summer transfer window and have made a number of signings.
The Championship club have signed central defender John Terry, full-back Ahmed Elmohamady, and goalkeeper Sam Johnstone (on loan).
Steve Bruce’s side will be aiming to finish in the Championship next season after enduring a disappointing 2016-17 campaign in the second tier of English football.
It is going to be hard for the Villans as a number of other clubs will be eyeing the playoffs, such as Leeds United, Derby County, Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday.
