Aston Villa were reportedly on the verge of completing a deal for Hull City striker Abel Hernandez, prompting club owner Tony Xia to comment.
Aston Villa owner Tony Xia has taken to Twitter to comment on reports linking the Villans with a seemingly-imminent move for Hull City striker Abel Hernandez, and it is safe to say that he has left the club’s supporters in doubt regarding the speculation.
A recent report from Embajadores Del Gol suggested that the Championship side were hours away from completing a permanent deal for the 26-year-old, who had agreed a three-year contract with the Tigers’ divisional rivals.

However, Xia took to Twitter to respond to the reports, and issued an emphatic response on the matter by making reference to the £20 million move they made for the Uruguayan last summer, which Sky Sports suggested at the time fell through due to personal terms.
It would have certainly been a major surprise if Villa were able to pull off a deal for Hernandez, given that Steve Bruce has previously alluded to the fact that the club need to be very smart in the window due to Financial Fair Play regulations, as reported by the Birmingham Mail.
Even though Hull’s relegation would surely seen Hernandez’s value drop from the £20 million he appeared close to moving for last summer, his experience in the Premier League and as an international would have surely ensured that he would have still cost a considerable amount of money.
So it is perhaps not surprising that Xia has looked to play down the reports at this stage, as had the fans felt that the forward not arriving was a sign that the club had missed out, it may have put a dampener on what appears to have been a very successful window for the Villans, especially given the budget restrictions.
