Aston Villa made it two wins in a row as they beat Bristol City 2-0 at Villa Park on Tuesday evening, with Conor Hourihane bagging the second goal.
Villa beat Derby County 1-0 on Saturday afternoon to finally pick up their first league win of 2017 at the ninth time of asking, and followed that up with another win on Tuesday.
Steve Bruce’s men wasted a chance to go in front in the first half, as Jonathan Kodjia – facing the club he left last summer – blazed a penalty over the bar after Gary Gardner had been fouled.
However, Kodjia made amends by scoring the opening goal for Villa in the second half, before Conor Hourihane sealed the win with his first goal in claret and blue.
The Irish midfielder slotted home from close range after Albert Adomah’s shot had been blocked, and he will be delighted to have opened his account in an important victory for Villa.
A January signing from Barnsley, Hourihane had hit more than 30 goals from midfield for the Tykes, and Villa fans finally saw the 26-year-old live up to his reputation as a goalscoring midfielder.

After the final whistle, Villa owner Tony Xia took to Twitter to respond to a tweet sent by Hourihane, and urged the midfielder to keep going after scoring his first goal for Villa.
Hull City midfielder and fellow Irishman David Meyler also sent a message to his former Sunderland team-mate, congratulating Hourihane on his goal.
