Rangers are going about the process of replacing Pedro Caixinha after sacking the Portuguese manager on Thursday.
Tony Watt believes Rangers would be making a mistake if they failed to appoint Belgian manager Michel Preud’homme as Pedro Caixinha’s replacement at Ibrox.
Preud’homme is currently out of work after ending his four-year spell with Club Brugge earlier this year, helping the club win the Belgian Pro League once in 2015-16.
Sky Sports claimed on Sunday that Rangers were not interested in appointing the 58-year-old boss despite suggestions that talks had been held, as the Gers look for a British boss with Scottish Premiership experience.
Former Celtic striker Watt, 23, has plenty of experience in Belgian football after being loaned from Celtic to Lierse back in 2013-14, and is now currently plying his trade for OH Leuven in the country’s second tier.
He claimed on his personal Twitter account that Preud’homme is “a winner” and believes it would be “a coup” if they could lure him to Ibrox as Caixinha’s replacement.
Interim boss Graeme Murty staked his claim for the permanent job with an impressive start in his second stint as caretaker manager, with a 3-1 win away at Hearts on Saturday.
The win became even more crucial as Saturday unfolded, with Celtic dropping two points against Kilmarnock as they were held to a 1-1 draw. The Gers next face Partick Thistle at Ibrox on Saturday and it remains to be seen if a new manager wil be in place.
