Tony Pulis has warned West Bromwich Albion supporters not to expect the club’s new owners to splash the cash during the January transfer window, the Daily Mirror reports.

The Baggies endured a fairly quiet summer with £13m signing Nacer Chadli proving to be the only big money arrival, while Matt Phillips and Allan Nyom cost £5.5m and £4m respectively (via Express).

But while the Express reported shortly after the window’s closure that the apparent lack of ambition left Pulis considering his future at the Hawthorns, he has now stated that there could be some low-key windows to come, despite the new owners paying £175m for the club (via Mirror).

“The new owners are not going to throw hundreds of millions of pounds at it and they want to do it in a controlled way,” he said, as reported by the Mirror.

“The fact they want to do it that way… I like doing it that way and I like staying at clubs and building.

“We have 18 months now to get a stronger foundation, to bring in better players and take the club forward.

“That aim of being a top-10 club, one that can have a squad in depth, strong enough to compete in all the cup games as well, is something we are going to try to achieve.”

While Chadli has been sensational since joining, and his partnership with Salomon Rondon is clearly going to be a crucial one for West Brom, they surely need to add some more quality to their ranks if they hope to elevate themselves in the Premier League.

General view before the match

The Baggies have not finished in the top-half of the table for the last three seasons. And while they have made a bright start to this campaign, the gap between themselves and eighth place is the same as the gap between themselves and the bottom three.

And while there have been too many occasions where teams spending recklessly has come back to haunt them, supporters may also be concerned that without sufficient investment in the squad, West Brom could still get dragged into danger.
