Tony Pulis suggests West Bromwich Albion shouldn’t have appointed Alan Pardew

Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion will face each other in the Championship this evening.

Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis has suggested to The Telegraph that West Bromwich Albion should not have appointed Alan Pardew as their manager when they did.

Former Newcastle United and Crystal Palace boss Pardew was appointed the West Brom manager in November 2017 following the departure of Pulis.

The Baggies were struggling for survival in the Premier League at the time, and the Englishman was expected to guide them to safety.

However, Pardew failed to make an impact at The Hawthorns and parted company with West Brom in April 2018.

Darren Moore was placed in charge of the Baggies until the end of the 2017-18 campaign, and he was given the job on a permanent basis in the summer following the club’s relegation to the Championship.

Pulis told The Telegraph: “I thought Gary would have been ideal. He took over for two games, went to Tottenham and drew at Wembley, drew with Newcastle. It was strange they changed and got Alan [Pardew] in.

“Alan is a friend of mine and I’m not having a go at him, but that club was well set up for Gary to take over because he knew the players.”

Middlesbrough and West Brom will face each other at the Riverside Stadium in the Championship this evening.

Both Boro and the Baggies are aiming to finish in the top six of the Championship this season, and this evening’s match promises to be crucial.
