The Baggies boss pointed to the quality of some of the players he has signed as a reason why business is taking its time this summer.
West Brom manager Tony Pulis
West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis has addressed the club’s transfer business once again in his press conference ahead of the Baggies’ home match against Middlesbrough on Saturday, and he remains optimistic according to comments published by Sky Sports.
Having only signed Matt Phillips from QPR and Brendan Galloway on loan from Everton, Pulis had previously mentioned his hopes of bringing in as many as five new players by the transfer deadline, and it is a number he is still holding on to as he looks to add both quantity and quality to his squad.
“I still think I’ll get my five players,” Pulis is quoted as saying by Sky. “I know it’s been two weeks but these things take time but I still think these deals will get over the line.
“I’ve been here 22 months and signed the likes of Rondon, Fletcher and Evans and we are trying to bring in players of that quality.”

Pulis and his West Brom side haven’t had the best of starts to the season. The Baggies impressed as they beat Crystal Palace away by 1-0 on the opening day of the campaign, but the first match at the Hawthorns ended in disappointment the following week when Everton visited.
The Toffees won 2-1 courtesy of goals from Kevin Mirallas and Gareth Barry, despite Gareth McAuley putting Pulis’ side ahead. But things would get worse in the week as Northampton Town knocked West Brom out of the League Cup on penalties.

Phillips has started all three fixtures, and played the full match against the Cobblers in midweek, with fellow newboy Galloway also beginning the League Cup match before coming off midway through the second half.
Though the Baggies may not have any new signings on display against Boro, the following game, set after the transfer window has shut, could see a number of different faces at the club, if Pulis gets his wish.
