The winger was sensational during West Brom’s win over Leicester at the weekend.
Tony Pulis has explained that the biggest problem with West Bromwich Albion star Matt Phillips is his lack of self-belief after the winger’s stunning display at the weekend, the Birmingham Mail reports.
The 25-year-old put in his best performance since his summer move to the Hawthorns to inspire the Baggies to a 2-1 victory at the home of the Premier League champions.

His assist set up James Morrison for West Brom’s opener, and the winner came when he capitalised on Danny Drinkwater’s mistake before showing a tremendous amount of composure to just lift the ball over Ron-Robert Zieler in the Foxes goal.
And following the victory, Pulis hailed the former Queens Park Rangers man’s ability and explained what has been holding him back.

“The biggest problem with Matt is that self-belief,” he said, as reported by the Mail.
“He’s got all the tools, he’s very quick, he’s got two great feet.
“He’s got a good goalscoring record.”

It is perhaps due to pressure that Phillips’ performance against Leicester has proved to be something of an anomaly so far this season.
After Nacer Chadli, Phillips was West Brom’s second biggest signing of a very quiet summer, so he would have known that he needed to hit the ground running to justify why the club were happy to make him one of just a handful of signings they made.
But having shone against Leicester, he will surely receive a major boost to his confidence. And Pulis will be hoping that that is exactly what he needs to make an impression at the highest level.
