West Bromwich Albion have been quiet during the summer transfer window so far.

Tony Pulis has suggested that he would ideally like to add as many as four more players to his West Brom ranks during the remaining weeks of the summer transfer window, the Express and Star reports.

The Baggies have been fairly quiet this summer, with Jay Rodriguez arriving from Southampton, while Ahmed Hegazy has signed on a season-long loan and Chinese forward Zhang Yuning has joined Werder Bremen on a two-year loan after signing permanently.

With the start of the Premier League season just a few weeks away, West Brom fans would be forgiven for being concerned with the club’s lack of activity. But Pulis has attempted to alleviate some of those concerns.

“We’re hoping to get three or four more added to the squad, they’re going to be three or four players we hope that are better than what we’ve got so we improve it,” he said, as reported by the Express and Star.

“But we won’t and we can’t get an enormous squad of players.”

It would certainly be a surprise if the Baggies hierarchy did not back the manager with some funds in the immediate future as last season arguably highlighted how having a thin squad can hurt a team as the campaign goes on.

General view before the match

West Brom spent much of the year as the top seven’s closest rival in the Premier League table, but seemed to run out of steam in the final weeks of the campaign, leaving them to hold on to a top-half finish only on goal difference.

And if they fail to replicate their good spells of form from last season this time around, then the moment they run out of steam could lead to much more severe consequences – surely making it essential that they now step up their efforts in the window.
