Berahino has not played for West Bromwich Albion for almost three months.

Tony Pulis has reiterated that West Brom want to get Saido Berahino signed to a new contract at the Hawthorns, and suggested that the 23-year-old still has the potential to become a £30m player, the Daily Mirror reports.

It is certainly safe to say that the striker’s career has stagnated dramatically over the last year. Since failing to secure a move to Tottenham in 2015 (via Mirror), Berahino has scored just seven times in all competitions, and failed to find the back of the net so far this season having not played for the club in nearly three months.

The Mirror adds that he has recently returned from a solo training camp in France after admitting that he is suffering from depression.

But Pulis has suggested that the forward – whose contract expires in the summer (via Mirror) – is starting to show glimpses of his previous quality.

“I believe John is still desperate to get the kid signed. The true happy ending would be for him to sign a new contract and we get him to the level he was when I first came to the football club,” he said, as reported by the Mirror.

“That was when we made the kid happy and he made us happy by scoring 20 goals a season.

“He looks much clearer in his mind and has that sparkle back in his eyes. I think he has come back a lot more focused. If he comes back the way he was, he would be a like a new signing worth £30m.”

With the Baggies playing so well lately – they have moved up to seventh in the Premier League table – having Berahino back playing at his best will boost their chances of finishing right up the table enormously.

During the 2014/15 season, he scored 20 times in 45 games in all competitions. And with the attacking players that West Brom now boast, it is difficult to imagine Berahino not realising his potential if they can get him to commit his future to the club.
