West Bromwich Albion have enjoyed an excellent season in the Premier League, but they arguably face a tough challenge trying to replicate that next year.
West Brom manager Tony Pulis
Tony Pulis has suggested that West Brom should be looking to make as many as six signings this summer if they hope to build on this season, the Express and Star reports.
The Baggies have enjoyed an excellent year in the Premier League and look to be in with a great chance of securing eighth place in the table with seven points currently separating them from Everton in sixth and Southampton in ninth – though a win over the latter today could be very important as the Saints boast two games in hand.
With many anticipating that West Brom may be hitting their ceiling this year, Pulis will know that the upcoming window will be a massive one at the Hawthorns as they look to close that gap to the top seven.
And the Baggies boss confirmed that he wants to add a number of players to their ranks before the new campaign begins.
“We need at least five or six players to come in and improve the club,” he said, as reported by the Express and Star. “That’s the aim and it’s not just one position (we are looking).
Nacer Chadli was one of the few signings West Brom made
“We have to keep pushing on. There’s definitely areas we have to strengthen and that’s all over the pitch not just in one place.”
While West Brom fans were initially somewhat uninspired following their quiet summer window last year, the lack of business probably worked in their favour as the handful of signings who did come in added a tremendous amount of quality, but the lack of new faces meant that they did not need too much time to bed in the new additions.
So getting the balance right between adding even more quality and keeping that team spirit that has brought them so far this year will be crucial for Pulis if they hope to keep progressing.
