Sunderland host West Bromwich Albion this weekend.
West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis says he has a lot of respect for Sunderland boss David Moyes and backs him to succeed at the Stadium of Light, he told the club’s official website.
Moyes hasn’t enjoyed the best of starts to life as Sunderland boss, picking up just one point from his opening six matches in charge and losing the last three on the bounce.
The Black Cats head in to their match with West Brom coming off the back of a 3-2 defeat at home to Crystal Palace, despite leading the Eagles 2-0 with just over 30 minutes to play.
Pressure is already mounting on the former Everton boss, yet in Pulis he has plenty of backing as the West Brom manager predicts the Scot to eventually get it right on Wearside.
“I’ve got a lot of respect for David, he’s joined a club that has to fight, scrap and work hard to get the points needed to retain their Premier League status,” Pulis told his club’s official website.
“This will be a new experience for him, but he’s a top man and a top football manager and I’m sure he will get through it.”
West Brom, in contrast, head in to the match in good form having picked up four points from their last two matches including an entertaining 4-2 victory over West Ham United.
Sunderland and West Brom aren’t renowned for high-scoring matches, and supporters on Saturday should expect a tight affair with the last two matches between the teams at Sunderland ending 0-0.
Moyes, while in desperate need of a win, would probably take a clean sheet and a 0-0 draw before kick off as keeping goals out – especially at home – has been a major problem so far this season.
