Tony Pulis has said to The Express that West Bromwich Albion intend to tie sought-after defender Jonny Evans down to a new deal.

The 29-year-old has impressed during his two-year stint at The Hawthorns following a trophy laden spell with Manchester United, winning three Premier League titles.

But Manchester City and Arsenal were sniffing around toward the end of the transfer window, though Pulis managed to keep the Northern Irishman in the West Midlands.

January won’t be long coming around, however, and the West Brom boss revealed that he wants Evans to sign a new contract with the Baggies.

He said to The Express: “If Arsenal or Man City had met the valuation it could’ve been different. He has to get his head down and get on with it.

West Bromwich Albion Football Club player Jonny Evans attends a press conference in Hong Kong on July 18, 2017, ahead of the 2017 Premier League Asia Trophy being played on July 19 and 22.

“I hope we can offer him a new contract and tie him down, we will speak next week about what Jonny is thinking and what he wants to do.”

Albion have had a very decent start to the new Premier League season, winning two and drawing one of their first three games as Pulis’s side sit fifth in the table.

They are unlikely to stay there, however, but Evans’s continued presence at West Brom is a huge plus.

He has two years to run on his existing contract.
