Tony Pulis is adamant that West Bromwich Albion need to spend big this summer, so perhaps Swansea City talisman Gylfi Sigurdsson should be a target.
West Brom manager Tony Pulis has seemingly sent a message to the Baggies board
Tony Pulis has seemingly sent a clear message to the West Brom hierarchy regarding the club’s plans for the summer by insisting that they will need to spend big just to stand still in the Premier League, the Express and Star reports.
“Yes, without being too dramatic. I think it’s going to cost more money every year to improve, that’s the way it is,” he said, as reported by the Express and Star, when asked whether spending big is required to just stand still.
With that in mind, West Brom should arguably prove their ambition by making a stunning bid for Swansea City talisman Gylfi Sigurdsson before he moves elsewhere this summer.
The Baggies have threatened to show some real intent in the transfer market recently, with a £15 million bid for Morgan Schneiderlin (via BBC Sport), while £25 million-rated midfielder William Carvalho is also on their radar (via Daily Mirror).
But entering the race for Sigurdsson would arguably be a brilliant move by the Baggies, especially given the clubs that reportedly want to sign him.
Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson would be a brilliant signing for West Brom
The Daily Mirror recently suggested that Everton have agreed a £25 million fee with the Swans for the Iceland international, but the player’s desire for a contract worth £120,000 a week has left the door slightly open for the likes of Tottenham and Southampton to potentially swoop in.
While the figures involved suggest that West Brom may be facing an uphill battle trying to enter the race, they have proven by targeting Schneiderlin and Carvalho that they are certainly considering spending big money at some stage, and Sigurdsson is undoubtedly a player worthy of being that marquee addition.

The 27-year-old scored nine times and contributed 13 assists in the top flight for a team that only secured survival in the final weeks of the campaign.
And if West Brom were able to bring him to the Hawthorns, he would arguably have the quality to justify the club’s decision to spend a considerable portion of the club’s budget on signing him, and may prove to be the signing that helps the Baggies not only maintain their top-half place in the league, but actually push further up the table.
