Hal Robson-Kanu missed a glorious chance to send West Bromwich Albion’s Carabao Cup tie with Manchester City to extra-time.
Tony Pulis has defended Hal Robson-Kanu after the forward missed a brilliant chance to send West Brom’s Carabao Cup tie with Manchester City into extra-time on Wednesday night, the Express and Star reports.
The Baggies went into the final few minutes of their game against Pep Guardiola’s men 2-1 down after Leroy Sane’s second goal of the game came just five minutes after Claudio Yacob’s equaliser.
It appeared however, that West Brom were about to level the game for a second time and surely send the contest into extra-time when Robson-Kanu found himself in the box with only Claudio Bravo to beat.
But the Welshman managed to hit the post to add to the frustration of missing another great chance earlier in the game. But Pulis refused to criticise the 28-year-old too heavily.
“I’m not going to be critical, he’s had a couple of great chances that on another day he’ll put away.”
The problem Pulis has now got is that none of his three strikers have been prolific in front of goal this season. Jay Rodriguez is the Baggies’ top goalscorer this term, with just two goals in all competitions, including one against Accrington Stanley, while Salomon Rondon has scored none in four Premier League appearances so far.
The form of his teammates therefore, may perhaps tempt Pulis to give Robson-Kanu another start at the weekend in an attempt to give him the best chance of putting the misses against City behind him.
