West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis says new signing Hal Robson-Kanu wasn’t a transfer target as the Welsh boss bemoans the club’s activity during the summer, the Mirror report.

The Baggies ended up being one of the quietest Premier League clubs in terms of new additions, adding just five players in the summer with one of those being Brendan Galloway on loan from Everton.

Pulis originally wanted some marquee signings to help boost his side’s chances of a top ten Premier League spot, yet in contrast they now appear in danger of regressing from last season.

Speaking to reporters, the former Stoke City boss bemoned his side’s inability to really strenghten the squad and went as far as to admitting free signing Hal Robson-Kanu wasn’t even one of his transfer targets.

“He wasn’t one of my main targets. He was available at the end and we thought he would be a good acquisition,” Pulis told the Mirror.

“But to say he was one of the marquee signings would be wrong – we’d have signed him at the beginning of the transfer window if he was.”

“The five players that John (chairman John Williams) has said I was happy with, they weren’t the marquee players I wanted to bring in.”

Robson-Kanu left Reading at the end of last season following the expiration of his contract, and his excellent performances for Wales at the European Championships subsequently saw him become an ideal target for a number of clubs.

For West Brom, however, the West Midlands club evidently had other ideas and it wasn’t until deadline day came around that they decided to bring the 27-year-old forward in.

West Brom did break their transfer record with the addition of Nacer Chadli from Tottenham Hotspur, yet according to the Mirror, they ultimately came up short in their pursuit of big-money moves for Malaga’s Ignacio Camacho and Portuguese star William Carvalho.
