The Newcastle United academy product made the permanent switch to Blackburn Rovers in the summer transfer window.
Blackburn Rovers have acquired a potential bargain in Adam Amstrong, despite the former Newcastle United striker having failed to score since September.
That is according to Tony Mowbray, the Blackburn manager who has now signed Armstrong on three occasions.
After loan spells together at Coventry City and Rovers, the pair were reunited on a permanent basis in the summer transfer window – at a cost of £1.75 million, the Lancashire Telegraph reports.
And speaking to the very same newspaper about the Newcastle academy product, who was named man of the match in two of Blackburn’s last three home games after being converted into an inside forward, Mowbray said: “I think (Armstrong is finding consistency).
“I’ve worked with Adam for a long time now, thinking back to our days at Coventry City, and know how electric he can be on his good days. He had a hot day (against Rotherham).
“I think he’s learning the game, he’s trusting when we’re telling him to stay out wide because sometimes he wants to come in to the middle and get involved.
“His attributes are his fantastic speed and tight control and sometimes just to isolate him one-on-one with a defender is a tough day for the full back.
“He has to trust us when we tell him to stay out wide, not go running inside, yet he’s not a winger.
“He’s a wide striker for us, he threatened the goal as well as creating chances and I’m sure he will only get better and stronger as we move forward.
“The money we’ve paid for him, he’s potentially going to be a super player.”
Armstrong has scored four goals in 17 games for Blackburn this season, with only one of those arriving in a Championship fixture.
It was reported at the time that Newcastle could be due a further £1.25 million for the Geordie.
Armstrong appeared 21 times for his boyhood Magpies, but failed to score single goal in black and white.
