Newcastle forward Armstrong spent the second half of the 2017-18 season on loan at Blackburn.

Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has been quoted by the Shields Gazette as saying that the Championship club are monitoring Newcastle United striker Adam Armstrong.
The 21-year-old spent the second half of the 2017-18 campaign on loan at Blackburn, scoring nine league goals in 21 outings as Blackburn bounced back into the Championship at the first attempt.
Blackburn will be looking to bring in new additions before the end of the transfer window on August 9, especially after only bringing in a handful of young stars including Kasey Palmer from Chelsea on loan.
The club have had to wave goodbye to both Armstrong and Marcus Antonsson who returned to Leeds before joining Malmo, and are light in the final third. It could mean, then, that Blackburn return for Armstrong.
“I think they are very much still very much in the mix,” Mowbray said, when asked whether Armstrong or Middlesbrough’s Harry Chapman will join the newly-promoted side – with the latter also on loan at Ewood Park last term.
“I don’t think we should be talking about other teams’ players, but I have had some conversations with their clubs. We have lists and they are not, and have not been, at the top of those lists.”

Armstrong has featured prominently for The Toon during pre-season, and Newcastle may look to keep the England youth international after selling Aleksandar Mitrovic to Fulham and failing to land Salomon Rondon from West Bromwich Albion.
But Armstrong will be aware that he has only featured 21 times in all competitions for Newcastle since his debut way back in March 2014, while 17 of his 21 outings have been from the bench. He has two years remaining on his contract.
