Blackburn Rovers signed Harry Chapman from Middlesbrough in January.
Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray has challenged Harry Chapman to show he is good enough for the Championship as the player steps up his fitness ahead of his debut, Lancashire Telegraph report.
“We’re patient enough, I’m not sat here clamouring for Harry Chapman to be a saviour for us or anything. He’s just a young boy that has talent that we know and we’ve seen,” Mowbray explained.
“The test for Harry is that this is the next division up from when he last played for us. Can he do it against Championship defenders who might be faster, better game knowledge, and that’s the test for him as a young player when his opportunity comes, whenever that might be.”
Chapman joined Blackburn from fellow Championship side Middlesbrough during the January transfer window.
The midfielder had previously enjoyed a loan spell at Rovers while they were in League One, but a succession of hamstring injuries from late 2017 hampered his time at Ewood Park.
The youngster failed to make a single league appearance for Boro this season prior to his permanent move to Blackburn, therefore he is untested at Championship level.
Chapman is currently rebuilding his fitness with the U23 side, and Mowbray’s comments suggests he is challenging his player to prove his worth ahead of his potential upcoming league debut.
Blackburn have invested heavily in young players such as Chapman, Ben Brereton, Adam Armstrong, Joe Rothwell and Jacob Davenport, with the hope of building long-term success at the Lancashire club.
Right now, Tony Mowbray’s men are currently 14th in the Championship table having put an end to their four-game losing streak with a 2-2 draw at Birmingham City last weekend.
