Sunderland are interested in signing Tony Gallacher from Liverpool in the summer transfer window, according to The Liverpool Echo.

What’s the story?

The Liverpool Echo have reported that League One club Sunderland have made contact with Premier League outfit Liverpool over signing Gallacher.

Sunderland have enquired about securing the services of the 21-year-old left-back on a loan deal.

Talks between the two clubs are going on, and the possibility of the youngster moving to the Stadium of Light on a permanent contract still remains.

Tony Gallacher’s Liverpool spell

Gallacher has been on the books of Liverpool since January 2018 when he joined from Scottish club Falkirk.

According to The Liverpool Echo, the Reds had to pay £200,000 for the left-back.

The youngster made his first-team debut against Aston Villa in the League Cup during the 2019-20 campaign.

Leaving Liverpool for Sunderland

Andy Robertson is the first-choice left-back at Liverpool at the moment, and that is not going to change anytime soon.

It would make sense for Gallacher to leave the Reds, at least on loan, and get some decent playing time next season.

Sunderland are a big club who will be aiming for promotion to the Championship, and the Scottish left-back could flourish in League One.
