West Ham United are reportedly delaying contract talks with Slaven Bilic, after a poor start to the season.
Tony Gale has urged West Ham United’s co-owners – David Gold and David Sullivan – to offer Slaven Bilic a new contract on Sky Sports News, which was broadcast on 20th September.
Reports in the Daily Telegraph have suggested that West Ham are currently delaying offering Bilic a new deal, after their terrible start to the season.
However, Gale feels that this is the wrong tactic and West Ham are a stage where they need to back their manager.
“He’s a top manager,” Gale said to Sky Sports. “He hurts. West Ham fans are delighted to have him. This is the time to back your manager.
“If there is a doubt about the contract – get him signed up. We know he’s a good manager. Back your manager now!”
Bilic guided West Ham into seventh place in the Premier League table last season, which raised expectations heading into the new campaign.
The Hammers were strongly backed to be competing for a European place once again, but they are now playing catch up.
West Ham have won just once in the league this term – and they sit in 19th place in the current standings.
The Hammers’ next match comes in the League Cup tomorrow night against Accrington Stanley, before they face Southampton in Premier League action at the weekend.
