Tony Gale says West Ham United midfielder is irreplaceable amid strong interest from Liverpool.

Former West Ham player and now-turned football pundit Tony Gale says that Manuel Lanzini is a “rare breed” who can do “something different” from other players.

Lanzini joined the Hammers in 2015 on loan from Al Jazira, and his move was made permanent last summer.

He scored eight goals in the Premier League last season, and has established himself as a key player for the London club.

Manuel Lanzini of Argentina (L) makes a pass during the International Test match between Argentina and Singapore at National Stadium on June 13, 2017 in Singapore.

According to reports from the Daily Star, the 24-year-old is in line for an improved contract, but Liverpool retain strong interest in him.

Jurgen Klopp will require a creative attacking midfielder if Philippe Coutinho leaves for Barcelona, and could make a move for Lanzini.

Gale believes that the Argentine is irreplaceable at the club, and hopes that West Ham manage to keep him out of Liverpool’s grasp.

The Sky Sports pundit adds that West Ham are a much better team with Lanzini in the side.

He says that Lanzini is the best player for West Ham, and has likened him with Real Madrid’s world class midfielder, Luka Modric.

“He’s their best player, without a shadow of a doubt,” Gale told Starsport. He is the one guy who can do something different to the other guys.

“What he does is he runs with the ball, I liken him very much to Luka Modric, who Slaven had when he was managing Croatia. He’s like that and those players are a rare breed.

“When I’m doing commentary games, I look for something different, and he’s certainly got it. I just hope we can keep him out the grasp of maybe Liverpool.”

“In my opinion, he’s irreplaceable. [West Ham] are a much better team with him in there, but we have to play with a different style.”
