Rangers kept pushing forward, and had a number of presentable chances, but they were made to pay when Matt Ritchie scored against the run of play to put Newcastle back in the lead.
At that stage it seemed that the Magpies were going to pick up an expected three points, but a Ciaran Clark own goal in the closing stages meant the spoils were shared.
And Fernandes was pleased to see QPR putting in so much effort during the encounter.
