Tony Fernandes hopes Queens Park Rangers can follow the lead of Sheffield United.
United have returned to the Championship this season after six years in League One, and led the division until Tuesday night’s defeat at QPR.
The Blades’ success this campaign is made all the more impressive by fact their budget is among the lowest in the league, while only a handful of their players were playing above the third tier last term.
And for QPR owner Fernandes, United’s no-frills approach is one he would like to emulate at Loftus Road, as he seeks a return to the Premier League.
Speaking to Talksport on Wednesday afternoon (15:57), the Malaysian businessman said: “Of course we’d love to be in the Premier League, but we’re not gonna rush, we’re gonna do it properly this time.

“I keep telling the fans, be patient, set your expectations right and we’ll do it slowly. Look at Sheffield United, coming up from League One, they’re all English-based players, they’re hungry, the manager’s a great guy (Chris Wilder), I met him for the first time yesterday, and that’s what we wanna do.
“We wanna build the right structure so that when we come up we’re more like a Southampton, even Burnley, who’ve done a superb job. They went up and down a few years but they didn’t change anything, they didn’t rush it, they didn’t change their plans.”

Idrissa Sylla’s fourth-minute goal was enough to hand QPR victory against Sheffield United, who dropped to third after wins for Wolverhampton Wanderers and Cardiff City.
The R’s, meanwhile, are only two points off the play-offs in 12th, having also beaten new leaders Wolves on Saturday.
