The Queens Park Rangers owner has clarified why he made the remarks after a home win against Ipswich Town.
QPR owner Tony Fernandes has explained why he made his ‘new QPR’ comments on Twitter after the 2-1 win over Ipswich recently, according to the club’s official Youtube channel.
Indeed, Fernandes took to social media suggesting this is a new version of the R’s after the victory – but the west London side were then thrashed 3-1 by Fulham the following week, prompting widespread criticism for a short-sighted tweet.
But Fernandes told the QPR Youtube channel: “Before the Fulham game, we played well and I don’t care when but I love winning. The players were working hard all game and we dominated – that’s why I called it the new QPR. But then we lost to Fulham in a disappointing way.”
In his interview, the R’s owner certainly made his views a lot clearer than some of his tweets on social media – most of which infuriate fans due to their unclear messages (often full of spelling errors).
Several critics still won’t agree with Fernandes. He claims Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has made a good start to life at QPR and that most of their defeats have simply been unlucky. Paying fans may not take too kindly to that.
However, Fernandes has made a point that can’t be disputed: the club are now looking at a longer-term approach instead of the short-term view adopted during the days of Harry Redknapp.
