Kemar Roofe has done relatively well for Leeds United this season, but Tony Dorigo wants the Championship club to sign a number nine in the summer transfer window.

Tony Dorigo has suggested to Betstars that Leeds United need to sign a number nine in the summer transfer window.

The former Leeds defender, who was on the books of the Whites from 1991 until 1997 and won the Football League First Division with the Elland Road outfit back in 1991-92, has also suggested that Kemar Roofe cannot lead the line on his own.

Roofe, who can operate as a winger or as a striker, has scored 11 goals and provided three assists in 27 Championship starts for Leeds this season.

During the 2016-17 campaign, the former West Bromwich Albion prospect, who joined Leeds from Oxford United in the summer of 2016 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £3 million, scored three goals and provided seven assist in 28 league starts for the Whites.

Dorigo told Betstars: “Yeah, Kemar Roofe is a goal-scorer but of course he likes to play through the middle and anytime he’s been put through the middle he hasn’t really done it – he’s not really that physical a target man.

“As a striker he’s pretty good but is he good enough to lead Leeds back to the Premier League? But that’s where you’ve got Hernandez one side and Alioski the other side which I think are probably the two starting players. But Kemar Roofe has had limited opportunities and he’s found it difficult.

“When looking at a team that’s going to get promotion, I’m not sure there’s enough goals there. I think that’s why it will be key to look at that kind of player that scores you plenty of goals and can start up top as a number nine.”

New striker needed

Roofe has done relatively well when he has been deployed down the middle, but Leeds do need a proven goalscorer who can score 15 to 20 goals in the Championship next season.

With Pierre-Michel Lasogga having left Elland Road following the end of his loan spell, it should be a top priority for the Whites to sign a striker who can score regularly and in the big games.
