Leeds suffered a second successive defeat to Forest on New Years’ Day.

Tony Dorigo has told LUTV that he was disappointed with Pontus Jansson for the defender’s role in Nottingham Forest’s third goal during the 4-2 defeat to Aitor Karanka’s side.

Leeds suffered a second successive league defeat at the City Ground, and only their fifth Championship loss all season as a string of mistakes cost Marcelo Bielsa’s side dearly.

Sweden international Jansson has been in superb form all season for Leeds, but he misjudged a cross that allowed Daryl Murphy to rise highest and find the back of the net to put Forest 3-2 in front.

Former Leeds defender Dorigo criticised the ex-Torino and Malmo colossus, stating Jansson made a mistake by getting caught under the flight of the ball and expects the Swede not to make the same mistake again.

“He misjudged it, simple as that,” Dorigo said. “Murphy is a strong man in the air, he is their most dangerous opponent. Pontus is picking him up, six or seven yards out, and just doesn’t.

“It’s a mistake, he knows, he is disappointed with himself. He didn’t even get a challenge on the player to put him off. You make mistakes. He gets caught underneath the ball, but it is a good header. He won’t do it again.”

Jansson has now turned out 101 times in all competitions for the Whites since joining on loan from Torino in August 2016 – a move which was made permanent in January 2017 for a fee of £3.5million (Express).

The loss sees Leeds remain in first place, but their lead has been cut to two points at the top of the table while Sheffield United have reduced the gap from first to third to just four points.

Leeds are next in action in the third round of the FA Cup as they travel to London to face QPR at Loftus Road, with Bielsa expected to make changes to his side. Leeds than play host to Derby County next Friday.
