Tony Dorigo appears to have sided with Leeds United over the sale of Pontus Jansson.

United decided to offload Jansson to Brentford in a £5.5 million deal last month [The Mirror].

It was a transfer that divided Leeds fans. The 28-year-old’s relationship with Marcelo Bielsa had broken down [The Mirror] and some were happy to back the manager’s judgement, while others were disappointed with their club over the sale of such a popular and key figure in defence.

It seems like it went wrong for Jansson toward the end of last season, when he disobeyed Bielsa’s orders to let Aston Villa score an equaliser during that fiery clash at Elland Road.

And Dorigo, speaking to an LS11 podcast on YouTube, believes that Bielsa was right to get rid.

He told an LS11 podcast on YouTube: “For me, Pontus was hugely frustrating simply because I know what a good player he is. I know what level he can reach, but it was the downsides.

“I’ve played in two or three winning teams that won titles and we did not have a player like that in our side. The lads would sort him out or the manager would sort him out.

“He’s such a big character that clearly a parting of the ways was decided.”

Jansson made his competitive debut for the Bees this afternoon, but they went down 1-0 at home to Birmingham City.

As for Leeds, they kick off their Championship season with a trip to Bristol City tomorrow.
