Former Wolverhampton Wanderers player Tony Daley comments on the Championship clubs’ promotion chances.
Former Wolverhampton Wanderers player, Tony Dayle, is not confident whether Wolves will attain Premier League status next season.
Wolves have made a brilliant start to their 2017-18 campaign under Nuno Espirito Santo, and find themselves top of the Championship table after 16 games.
Daley, who worked as a fitness coach for Wolves for nearly 10 years before leaving in May 2017, says that it’s a “tough call” when asked whether Wolves will get promoted.
Nuno Santo’s side have made a bright start, but Daley is doubtful whether they can sustain the momentum till the end of the season.
He says that the key for Wolves will be to keep going in the second half of the season.
Daley adds that there will be times when they will not play to their fullest potential, but good teams always find a way to pick up points.
The former Aston Villa player says that he expects the Villans to get promoted, but adds that it would be “great” if Wolves make it to the Premier League next season.
“It’s a very tough call,” said Daley, as quoted by the Sunday Mercury (printed edition – 12th November; page 62). Wolves have started off well but then there’s the question of are the players strong enough?
“The key is to keep it going second half of the season. The best teams can play rubbish and still pick up results.
“If Wolves and Villa can do that, then great. But being a Villa fan, if I had the choice, I’d say them first but hopefully both.”
