Tony Cottee wants David Moyes as West Ham boss, not Manuel Pellegrini

West Ham United have lost every league game under Manuel Pellegrini.

West Ham United hero Tony Cottee has told talkSPORT that he thinks David Moyes should be in charge of the club, not Manuel Pellegrini.

The Hammers suffered a last gasp 1-0 home defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon, with Adama Traore’s late goal condemning West Ham to a fourth straight defeat.

With prior losses to Liverpool, Bournemouth and Arsenal, it’s been a dismal start to the season for West Ham, as even their Carabao Cup win over AFC Wimbledon was more of a struggle than it should have been.

New boss Pellegrini is already coming under huge pressure at the London Stadium, with some wondering whether the Hammers have made a terrible mistake appointing the Chilean.

So far, this team have continued to look slow and unfit, just as they did under predecessors Slaven Bilic and David Moyes, and it’s hard to see just where the points are coming from given the fixture list.

West Ham’s next three Premier League games are against Everton, Chelsea and Manchester United, meaning it’s not impossible that they could remain pointless seven games into the season.

Now, West Ham hero Tony Cottee has offered his view to talkSPORT, offering the shock opinion that the Hammers should have kept David Moyes in charge rather than appointing Pellegrini, in order to build slowly and finally look for stability instead of bringing in another new manager.

“There was me thinking towards the end of last season ‘what we need is a third season with stability’,” said Cottee. “They needed to build on things and slowly creep forward; they needed someone to bring stability to the club. We had someone at the club, David Moyes, who could have done that. But no, the board decides to go and choose someone else.”

“I just don’t understand the appointment…I really don’t. I didn’t understand the appointment at the time as we should have kept David Moyes, but they made the change and we’ve got to deal with it now. I’ve got friends and family who were at the game on Saturday, and they told me it was a disgraceful performance – and that can’t go on,” he added.
