Everton and West Ham United are set to take each other on at Goodison Park later this evening.
Cottee represented both clubs during his playing days, and he is convinced that there are three worse teams than them both in the Premier League.
“Yes,” he said, when asked if Everton and West Ham will stay up.
“They are both going to stay up, they’ll be three teams worse than them.”
Despite Cottee’s confidence, Everton and West Ham have been two of the biggest under-performers in the Premier League so far this term.
Everton are currently in 17th place in the Premier League table, while West Ham sit one spot below them.
Everton and West Ham meet later this evening at Goodison Park, in what looks like a crucial match.
And Cottee says that he is hoping that West Ham can cause further misery at Goodison Park.
He said: “I’m hoping West Ham will win, but if they’re going to lose a game I couldn’t think of a better team to lose a game to than Everton.”
If West Ham are able to beat Everton they will leapfrog the Toffees, and send the Merseyside club into the relegation zone.
Everton are expected to appoint Sam Allardyce as their new manager in the very near future.
