Tony Cottee demands West Ham overhaul, two rumours suggest he’ll get what he wants

West Ham United remain in danger of relegation from the Premier League.

Pundit Tony Cottee has told Sky Sports that he wants to see a full-scale overhaul of West Ham United this summer, but everybody must stick together for now.

West Ham will return from the international break with a crucial home game against Southampton, with the two teams both in a battle against relegation to the Championship.

The Hammers appeared to be moving away from trouble under David Moyes, but four heavy defeats in their last five games have dragged them back into trouble.

A 3-0 home defeat to Burnley last time out was bad enough, but the fan protests and pitch invasions aimed at the club’s owners David Gold and David Sullivan made matters even worse.

It remains to be seen just what sort of atmosphere awaits West Ham this weekend as they take on Southampton, but former striker and current pundit Tony Cottee has offered his view on the club’s situation.

Cottee has told Sky Sports that he thinks West Ham need a ‘complete and utter overhaul’, and need to change everything about the club this summer, but must stick together and stay in the Premier League until the end of the season.

“There needs to be a complete and utter overhaul at the club, at probably every level,” said Cottee. “Can you do that now? I’m not so sure. There are eight games left. It is important that everybody sticks together, the fans, the players, the management.”

“Everybody has to stick together at the club to try and get the results to stay in the Premier League and then at the end of the season everything needs to be sorted out, and I mean everything. There is a lot wrong at the club and they cannot afford to be relegated,” he added.

Cottee’s comments come as West Ham seemingly line up changes this summer, as The Sun report that they want Leicester City’s Eduardo Macia as director of football, and Marca claim that Marco Silva is being lined up to replace David Moyes as manager.

Landing Silva would certainly bring a different approach on the field, whilst the change in approach to transfers – away from Sullivan taking the lead on incomings – would also give West Ham a new dimension, and the double move may just give Cottee what he wants this summer.
