West Ham decided to end David Moyes’ spell in charge at the London Stadium.
Former West Ham United striker Tony Cottee has told TalkSPORT that he believes David Moyes was “the man for the job” and has blasted the Hammers board for sacking the manager.
Moyes, 55, was given his marching orders on Wednesday afternoon despite guiding the east Londoners to Premier League safety, after taking over West Ham in the relegation zone towards the end of 2017 following Slaven Bilic’s sacking.
The former Manchester United and Everton manager got the best out of the likes of Marko Arnautovic, Mark Noble and Declan Rice, with the trio playing an integral part in pushing the Hammers to a comfortable 13th-placed finish.
However, Moyes was only contracted until the end of the season and the heavily-criticised West Ham board have decided to axe the Scottish manager to the disgust of Cottee, who has blasted co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan.
“I’m reading they want a manger to take them to the next level; well the next level is to have some stability at the club, surely?
“If you want stability, David Moyes is the man for the job,” Cottee said. “I just don’t understand it, I really don’t understand what is going on at my football club.
“And before anyone says anything about me just being a media pundit, I’ve got two season tickets, I pay a lot of money, I go to watch the team – I’ve got as much right as the average fan to give an opinion on it.
“I’m so fed up of what is going on at my club; it’s getting on my nerves now.”
Shakhtar Donestk boss Paulo Fonseca, Newcastle United’s Rafa Benitez and Hebei China Fortune manager Manuel Pellegrini have all been linked with the vacant role at the London Stadium, since Moyes’ departure.
The Hammers are set for another busy summer transfer window, with a new goalkeeper, striker and a central midfielder likely to be high on their agenda.
