Tony Cascarino has urged West Ham to target a deal for the 36-year-old, who previously spent time on loan at Upton Park.
Tony Cascarino has told The Irish Sun that West Ham United should consider targeting a deal that would see Robbie Keane return to the Hammers six years after his previous spell with the club.
Keane is currently unattached having left LA Galaxy towards the end of last year. And while he has attracted the attention of Preston North End (via The Irish Sun), Leeds United and Sunderland (via Express), Cascarino believes that Slaven Bilic should be willing to take a chance on the 36-year-old.
Robbie Keane, during his time with West Ham United
He told The Irish Sun: “If I was at West Ham, who are desperate for a striker, or a relegation-threatened Prem side, I would be wondering, ‘Why not?’
“Signing Robbie until the end of the season is virtually no risk.
“He could get you the four or five goals that keep you up.
“If I am wrong and Robbie is not up to top-flight standard anymore, he will still train well and will be good around the dressing room.”
Keane may find it difficult to turn down the chance to join the Irons, given that he may well feel that he has unfinished business with the club.
As mentioned, he spent some time with West Ham in 2011 after joining on loan from Tottenham. However, his spell at Upton Park did not exactly go to plan.

He scored just twice in nine league games and the Hammers were ultimately relegated from the Premier League.
However, this time around, Bilic’s men still have an outside chance of forcing their way into the top seven, so there would be a good chance, if he was to rejoin the club, that his experience would be a lot more positive.
And while he is very much in the twilight of his career, his record in MLS shows that he definitely still knows where the back of the net is so perhaps he could make an impact if Bilic decides to take Cascarino’s advice.
