TalkSport pundit Tony Cascarino has urged Arsenal to appoint Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder as their new manager as pressure mounts on current boss Unai Emery.

The former Republic of Ireland striker also thinks that Wilder would be a better fit than a Jose Mourinho, as he compared the Englishman with Premier League great Sir Alex Ferguson in regards to the manner in which he has come up the ladder.

As reported by The Mirror, Mourinho has been dining with Arsenal chief Raul Sanllehi as Emery is seemingly under pressure to keep his job.

Speaking to TalkSport (03/11/2019), Cascarino thinks that a manager like Wilder deserves the chance to manage a team like Arsenal.

“I don’t like to do this,” Cascrino told TalkSport. “Do you know, Manchester United job, Arsenal job, Chris Wilder, absolutely.

“And yet there will be loads of people out there where there will be a snobbery around football that will go Allegri or Mourinho. I’m like ‘no, I’d rather go Chris Wilder’. Not because I know him. He knows football and he is a proper football person.

“Like Sir Alex Ferguson, like Jurgen Klopp was at Mainz, okay Pep Guardiola went through Barcelona B to get the Barcelona job, but he showed what he could do. I believe there are certain managers in lower league football that are very gifted and deserve an opportunity. Chris has gone through the whole lot.”

Wilder has already made his mark on Arsenal when his Sheffield United team beat them 1-0 at Bramall Lane last month.

On Saturday, whilst Arsenal were dropping points at home to Wolves, Wilder’s side were dispatching Burnley 3-0 on home soil, as they are now sitting sixth in the Premier League table.

Sheffield United are only one point behind the Gunners and only four points off the Champions League places after 11 Premier League matches.
