Tottenham manager hunt: Tony Cascarino shuts down ‘very unfair’ claims

Tony Cascarino told talkSPORT (26/06/21 at 6:50 am) that potential new Tottenham boss, Nuno Espirito Santo, is a ‘very, very good manager’.

But the former striker has shut down the ‘very unfair’ claims about judging Nuno on what happened at Wolves last season – instead, he has urged for the bigger picture to be looked at.

After over two months of searching, it seems as though the former Wolves boss could take their reigns at Tottenham.

But then again, that doesn’t mean much because the same could have been said for all those previous candidates they have been linked with.

BBC Sport have previously reported that the ex-Wolves boss is the ‘leading contender’ to become Tottenham’s new manager.

And ex-Republic of Ireland international, Cascarino, spoke about why Nuno shouldn’t be seen in a negative light.

“Nuno has done brilliantly well at Wolves,” said Cascarino. “It was a very difficult season last year.

“It would be very unfair to judge Nuno on last season because he has done a hell of a lot of good things.

“He produced a Championship team, they were exciting and scored goals. And yes, they spent a lot of money and brought in some top-quality players. But he had a very, very good team.

“I think the biggest thing you can say is that he lost Raul Jimenez. He was massive to Wolves and made everything tick – he has proven to be a very, very good manager.”

Whilst Nuno is the ‘leading contender’ it seems as though a certain Daniel Levy doesn’t like the Portuguese have a likeness to Jose Mourinho, in terms of style.

And after Levy’s little speech about going back to an ‘attacking’ brand after Mourinho’s sacking, it wouldn’t seem logical going for a coach who is defensive-minded.

Whilst Tottenham had problems scoring in the first half and then sitting back in the second under Mourinho, it was a different problem for Nuno at Wolves.

Their problems stemmed in the first half and how they couldn’t find the back of the net – an issue that was a common theme throughout Nuno’s reign, even during the good times.
