Mousa Dembele struggled with injuries and fitness during the back end of his Tottenham Hotspur career as he is now plying his trade in China.
Tony Cascarino has claimed that Tottenham haven’t replaced Mousa Dembele, who he thinks made everyone around him ‘excel’.
Midfield powerhouse Dembele left the club last January when Chinese Super League side Guangzhou paid £11 million for his services, as reported by BBC Sport.
Towards the end of his Spurs career, Dembele’s game time began to reduce as injuries meant that he began to struggle to deal with the pace of the Premier League.
Speaking to Sports Breakfast on TalkSport (07/10/2019 at 6:00 am), former Millwall striker Cascarino thinks that Dembele has been a ‘massive loss’ to Spurs during this difficult period.
“It’s a really weird one because when Dembele left the club and I had saw him play at Juventus in Turin and I thought ‘what a performance’,” Cascarino told TalkSport.
“You know he was out of the club so quickly. I remember thinking that’s a massive loss to Tottenham, he’s such a good simple player, really strong, doesn’t score lots of goals, but everything he does makes people around him excel. And they haven’t really replaced him”
During his time in England, Dembele was always an underrated figure in the middle of the park, as he could dominate a midfield on his own.
But his problem always was putting a consistent amount of games together because that hampered his form and progress.
Nonetheless, in the summer, Spurs brought in Tanguy Ndombele as a replacement for Dembele, as the Frenchman has had a steady start to life in North London.
